R.
Clay Porter was born in Dallas,
Texas on October 15, 1954.
He received a Bachelor of
Arts degree from Eckerd College
in 1976 and a Juris Doctor
from Emory University in
1979. He was admitted to
the bar in Georgia in 1979.
Since founding Dennis & Corry,
presently Dennis, Corry,
Porter & Smith, L.L.P.,
in 1985, Mr. Porter has devoted
his practice to motor carrier
defense throughout the United
States with a particular
emphasis on allegations directed
specifically against the
motor carrier as well as
truck insurance coverage
issues. He currently serves
as General Outside Counsel
to Schneider National, Inc.
and related companies.
He has authored numerous
publications within the field
such as "The Hidden
Cost of Non-Compliance: Another
Reason to Synchronize the
Truck Industry and the Hours
of Service Regulations" which
appeared as a feature article
in the October 2000 issue
of The Transportation Law
Journal. Mr. Porter is also
a frequent speaker at industry
seminars such as the Truckload
Carriers Association, the
National Truck and Heavy
Equipment Claims Council,
and the Association for Transportation
Law, Logistics and Policy
and Southern Loss Association.
He is also an active member
of the Atlanta and American
Bar Associations, State Bar
of Georgia, the Lawyers Club
of Atlanta, Federation of
Defense & Corporate Counsel,
International Association
of Defense Counsel, Insurance
