Grant
B. Smith was born in Durham,
North Carolina on October
18, 1961. He received his
Bachelors of Business Administration
in 1983, a Masters of Business
Administration in 1984, and
a Juris Doctor in 1987,
all from the University of
Georgia. While attending the
University of Georgia School
of Law he served on the editorial
board of the Georgia Journal
of International and Comparative
Law.
Since
his admission to the Bar
in 1987, Mr. Smith has
been a leader in numerous
defense and transportation
organizations. He served
as Vice President of the
Georgia Defense Lawyers
Association in 2001, Executive
Vice President in 2003-2004
and currently serves as
President in 2004-2005.
He has been a member of
the GDLA Board of Directors
since 1997 and chaired
that organization's Motor
Vehicle Committee from
1999-2000. Between 1999
and 2000, Mr. Smith chaired
the Commercial Transportation
Litigation Committee of
the American Bar Association
and has been a member
of the committee since
1993. He is a member of
the Defense Research Institute,
Trucking Industry Defense
Association, Association
for Transportation Law,
Logistics and Policy,
State Bar of Georgia,
Atlanta and American Bar
Associations, Lawyers
Club of Atlanta and the
Atlanta Claims Association.
Mr. Smith frequently lectures
at national trucking seminars
including the Defense
Research Institute, ABA
Megaconference and the
American Trucking Association's
Litigation Center.
Mr. Smith is national counsel for a large motor carrier and is regional counsel for a number of large motor carriers and the largest truck insurance in the United States.
